Non-Binary

Pronunciation:

[ˈnɒn bīˌnerē ]

Definition

Another term to describe someone who is genderqueer. Non-binary is an umbrella term for anyone who does not exclusively identify with the traditional male/female or masculine/feminine binary.

Like genderqueer, someone with a non-binary gender can be androgynous, intergender or have a non-existent/neutral gender identity.

Example

Becky: “Are you a guy or a girl? You look like a female, but sometimes you dress and act like a male?”
Nicky: “I’m neither, I’m non-binary.”
Becky: “Oh, nice! Thanks for explaining that to me!”
