Transmasculine

Pronunciation:

[tranzˈ|ˈmaskyələn]

Definition

Transmasculine describes a genderqueer/transgender individual who was determined to be female at birth but identifies with masculinity and male traits more so than femininity and typically female traits.

This term has been used to describe genderqueer people who are transitioning to be more masculine, but are not necessarily undergoing a full female to male transition.

Individuals who are transmasculine will often dress, act and seem more masculine, sometimes using packing, binders and other forms of transitioning to appear more masculine.

Example

Cindy was born a female, but she considers herself to be transmasculine. She wears traditionally men’s clothes, acts and holds herself in a very masculine way.
